MIE Grant Program

Attention: 2010 MIE Grant Applicants
Funding to continue operating the MIE Grant Program in 2010 has been requested from the I BOAT NJ Program. We encourage you to submit your application. However, review and approval of applications submitted in 2010 will be contingent on the approval of our funding request.

The MIE Grant Program funds projects that help marinas maintain and achieve Clean Marina status and/or install vessel wash wastewater systems. We encourage projects that offer ways to reduce environmental impacts associated with recreational boating. Allowable expenses may include products that reduce or prevent environmental impacts, environmental enhancements and other expenses that directly help your facility meet or maintain the requirements of the New Jersey Clean Marina Program.

The grant recipient is required to provide matching funds. Proposals that also include in-kind donations of product and/or time are encouraged. Written estimates from suppliers must be included with application. Proposals which provide more than the minimum match are encouraged and will be viewed favorably by the Grant Review Committee. A grantee must keep accurate accounting records and must maintain the reporting schedule as specified in the grant agreement. Surplus funds are to be returned to the NJMSC/NJSG unless the grantee has received prior approval to spend the funds on other projects. Funding is limited and applicants are encouraged to apply as soon as possible.

Applications will be accepted in the following categories:

Projects that implement BMPs up to $4,000.

Health and safety equipment (e.g. dustless sanders and respirators)
Oil absorbent pads, pillows and booms;
Fuel vent attachments;
Capturing used antifreeze from inboard engines;
Improving trash and recycling centers;
Installing low flow faucets, toilets and showerheads - WaterSense
Other innovative methods of reducing nonpoint source pollution.

The I BOAT NJ Program has second funding to retain Najarian Associates to provide consultations services to MIE grant program applicants free of charge. Installation of stormwater control measures (amount to be determined) is based on facility layout. NJMSC/NJSGEP is partnering with Rutgers Cooperative Extension Water Resources Program to implement innovative stormwater management demonstration projects at two New Jersey marinas. If you are interested in applying for funds to install stormwater control measures or to schedule a site visit, email Jessica Staats or 732-872-1300 ext. 20.

Types of project expenses are NOT eligible the MIE Grant Program:

General operating funds, salaries, transportation, meals, lodging.
Projects conducted and expenses incurred prior to approval.
Funds are available for project-specific expenses only and cannot be used for general operating, administrative or
over – head expenses.

Applicants must provide a 10% cash match and applications submitted electronically are preferred and will be given priority. Funds can be requested in all three categories. However, applicants should clearly identify projects and costs in the narrative and budget including all written estimates from suppliers. Each application will be evaluated for the following:

Its relevance to the priorities and objectives of the New Jersey Clean Marina Program;
Matching needs of facilities; and
Its budget explanation and justification.

The Final Report

The final report must be submitted before final payment will be made.

The final report must include:

A detailed project description.
The final expenditure report, copies of all receipts and documentation of the match obligations.
Photographic documentation (preferably digital photos or video) of the project. A hard copy of all materials should be submitted. The final report is due within one year after award is made unless previous arrangements are made with the NJMSC/NJSG.
Projects must acknowledge the MIE Program with the NJMSC/NJSG (logo) and I BOAT NJ (logo) present on all printed and web – based materials related to the project.
