Lenape and the Jersey Shore

This full-day, outdoor program provides a "hands-on" introduction to the historic coastal lifestyle of New Jersey’s natives, the Lenape people.

The program involves students in problem solving, teamwork, and an exploration of Sandy Hook's marine environment from the perspective of the native people who once lived there.. This program is designed for smaller groups of students (50 or less) and is recommended for grades 3-8.
Key Concepts
This program shows the connection between native peoples and New Jersey's coastal environment. Your NJMSC Instructor will accomplish this through discussion, instruction, and “hands-on” activities that explore the historic lifestyle of the Lenape people. By focusing on coastal community life, students will gain insight into the Lenape lifestyle, organization and traditions.

  • Traditional fishing techniques (boots, nets and buckets supplied by NJMSC)

This program supports NJ Core Curriculum Content Standards:
Language Arts 3.3, 3.4
Science 5.1, 5.2, 5.5, 5.10
Social Studies 6.2, 6.3, 6.4, 6.5

Program limited to twenty-five (25) students per class.  Limit of two (2) classes per day.
Fee: $250.00 per class
