Partnerships

In the past year, NJMSC has been awarded with more than $1.3 million in external grants and contracts covering a wide range of research, education and outreach projects. This was accomplished with the support and cooperation of NJMSC’s many external partners, which include its own Member Institutions, Federal, state, county and municipal governments and agencies, and the private sector.

NJMSC has been able to draw on the resources and expertise of its university faculty, granting agencies, and state scientists and managers to leverage available funds into cooperative institutes to address New Jersey’s coastal issues.

Efforts have included:
  • Working with the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection on numerous programs to develop science-based policy governing atmospheric deposition (including TMDLs), harmful algal blooms, coastal ecosystem health, and dredged materials management;

  •
  • Collaborating with the the New Jersey Department of Transportation, NJ Maritime Resources to evaluate dredged materials for upland beneficial uses; including coordinating a national conference to present findings hosted cooperatively with MIT – Dredged Materials Management: Options and Environmental Considerations; and to launch recreational boater outreach initiatives like Shrink Wrap Recycling, The NJ Clean Marina Program and Boat Ramp Condition Analysis;

  •
  • Teaming up with corporate New Jersey which includes businesses like PSEG and First Energy to implement NJMSC’s award-winning minority outreach education program, A Partnership for Learning;
